Butterfly Koi originated in the mid-20th century as a result of an effort to increase the hardiness of traditional koi. Japanese breeders interbred wild Indonesian Longfin river carp with traditional koi. The resulting fish had longer fins, long barbells, pompom nostrils, and were hardier than koi. These were known in Japan as "onagaoi" or "hire naga koi", or translated in English "long tail koi". Butterfly Koi are also commonly known as Longfin Koi or Dragon Koi.

Select Quality Koi Our select quality koi are of a high grade. These fish have recognizable colors and patterns that allow easy identification of variety. Bekko, Matsuba, Chagoi, Soragoi, Karasu (crow), and many, many Gin R in varieties.
Decorative Quality Koi Our decorative varieties come in a variety of bright colors and patterns. Although this is our lowest price grade, all fish are of an easily salable quality. These are not our culls. Always keep some in stock for that customer looking for that "unique fish".
Live Koi orders are shipped Tuedays only. Wednesday delivery. Customers will be provided with FedEx tracking information via email. Customers should be home for delivery to accept package.
